We’re a business consulting firm that
has uniquely blended the management and the
behavioral sciences. As we all know,
great ideas and strategies aren’t enough
to ensure success in today’s work environment. No
one, not even the CEO can just tell people
what to do and expect great results.
Two Columbia Management Professors, Robert
Bontempo and William Klepper, spoke with
New York Times’ reporter Kelley Holland
about the importance of having “various
social styles within a team.”
Disagreement among senior level managers
and executives is more common and generally
more insidious and injurious than you may think. These
intra-organizational conflicts are solved only
when the results are sustainable, and a structure
is put in place to minimize future conflicts.
Despite the many highly publicized cases
of product tampering, manufacturing defects,
employee misconduct, work-place violence and
terrorist attacks: many private and public
companies, non-profits and government agencies
simply don’t adequately prepare for those
and other types of events that could cripple
their ability to operate. And, even within
those organizations that do have plans in place,
often times they do not practice frequently
enough or update their plans as environmental
conditions change and dictate.
Even after the contracts are signed and
post-acquisition activity, including integration,
has begun, conflicts arising from the purchase
or sale of a company can, and often do come
about as a result of poorly written or hastily
crafted ones (under pressure from non-legal
professionals involved in the deal): with
many of them ultimately leading to legal
actions.
But it doesn’t have to be
that way. Because Maverick understands
both the business and people
issues inherent within most acquisitions
and divestitures, we can often craft and
apply business solutions to conflicts that
might otherwise become legal issues (followed
by law suits). Once that happens, there
are generally significant costs and lots
of wasted time required to resolve the conflicts.

If you’re a senior manager or “C” level
executive, you don’t always get the candid
feedback you need to make important and timely
decisions. And, decisions by committee almost
always leads to over analysis, group think
or, worse, politicization of the solution.
By engaging Maverick for SecondOpinion,
the Firm can speed the decision making process
and at the same time provide you with unbiased
analysis; without fear of political backlash
or taking into account any other executives’ personal
agendas. We always speak the truth to power.
Too often, many consulting firms propose
and implement solutions (at a signifcant
cost) that should remedy a major problem
for their clients. But instead,
those so-called solutions end up creating
fear, dissent, paralysis and confusion within
and across departments--and sometimes
throughout the entire enterprise. This
happens because most consulting firms focus
only on process and operational changes but
neglect to assess and effectively deal with
the people issues inherent within the
scope of the engagement.
That won’t happen when you retain
Maverick: because working alongside
our operational consultants are our
PhD clinical psychologists that will
assess and address the people issues,
concurrent with our client- collaborative
efforts to craft and implement
sustainable business strategies and
action plans. We call this unique
engagement methodology Behavioral
Integration ManagementSM
or BIM.
